Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – The Pioneer men's soccer team rolled to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Cal Maritime on October 13 at Pioneer Stadium.
The win improves the Pioneers overall record to 3-7-3. Cal Maritime stands at 1-6-1 for the season. The Pioneers controlled much of the game, outshooting the Keelhaulers 19-3, including 14-2 on goal.
Javier Martin came off the bench to score a pair of goals and had a team-high five shots.
Rey Suarez had four shots, including three on goal.
Timo Baeuerle scored his first goal of the season in the 18th minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Second later, the Pioneers took a 2-0 advantage when
Carlos Barboza put a shot in the net from 10 yards out.
East Bay extended its lead to 3-0 in the 25th minute when Martin scored a goal with an assist from
Arthur Ethel and
Miguel Padilla. Sam Duenas recorded his first goal of the season in the 28th minute to extend the Pioneers lead to 4-0.
The Pioneers fifth goal came in the 41st minute as Martin scored from four yards out.
Andres Ponce and
Trevor Ross were credited with the assist.
Cal Maritime got on the scoreboard in the 64th minute when Marshall Fice scored on a breakaway.
The Pioneer defense held the Keelhaulers to one shot the remainder of the game. East Bay put up four shots in the second half, but was unable to score.
East Bay resumes CCAA play with a game at Cal Poly Pomona on October 19.
