SAN FRANCISCO – The Pioneers men's basketball team lost to San Francisco State, 78-72, in the “Battle of the Bay” on January 7.
The defeat dropped the Pioneers to 4-3 in CCAA play and 6-5 overall. San Francisco State stands at 2-5 in CCAA action and 4-9 for the season.
Cal State East Bay shot 33.9 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 48-35.

Roshun Wynne each scored 18 points for the Pioneers.
Mark Samuels had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Nefi Perdomo netted 18 points followed by Griffin Reilly with 17 for San Francisco State.
“San Francisco State played great and was very aggressive for 40 minutes,” Pioneer coach Will Biggs said. “We got ourselves in the hole by being outscored 19-0 to open both halves of the game.”
The Gators opened the game by converting five of their first six shots to take a 12-0 lead.
Jurrell Turner scored the Pioneers first basket with 13:10 remaining in the first half. The Pioneers scored the next four points to trail 12-6.
Whitfield hit a three-pointer with 7:43 left to give the Pioneers their first lead of the game, 19-18. He converted another three point basketball as the Pioneers increased their advantage to 28-22 with 1:51 remaining.
Turner nailed a jumper as the Pioneers took a 32-24 halftime lead.
The Gators went on an 8-0 run to lead 33-32 with 15:37 remaining in the second half.
A layup and a three-pointer by Wynne gave the Pioneers a 44-42 advantage with 11:00 minutes left.
With the game tied 46-46, the Gators scored seven unanswered points in the next three minutes.
San Francisco State increased its lead to 59-49 with 5:25 remaining.
The Pioneers rallied with a 10-3 run the following two minutes to trail 62-59.
Jason Smith hit a three-pointer with 2:47 remaining as the Pioneers still trailed 65-62.
San Francisco State outscored the Pioneers, 13-10, the remainder of the second half to seal the victory.
Cal State East Bay will play at UC San Diego on January 13.
