Pioneers Begin Second Half of CCAA Play with Pair of Road Games

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer men's basketball team, 5-6 CCAA and 7-8 overall, will begin the second half of CCAA play with a pair of road games against Cal State L.A. on January 27 and Cal State Dominguez Hills on January 28. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.                                                                                                                                                                                  

Cal State East Bay is currently on a season-long three game losing streak.

The Pioneers five conference victories have been by six points or less. Two of the Pioneer wins have been over ranked teams and CCAA co-leaders, Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona.

Cal State East Bay continues to lead the CCAA with a 76.6 scoring average. The Pioneers remain on top in the CCAA in turnover margin (+5.36), assist/turnover ratio (1.1), and 3-point field goals made (8.4pg). Cal State East Bay ranks third in steals at 7.9 per game. 

Roshun Wynne is fourth in scoring in the CCAA with a 14.6 point per game average. Wynne, who leads the conference with 2.7 steals a game, has scored in double figures in seven CCAA games including a conference best 24 points against Sonoma State.

Mark Samuels is the fifth leading scorer in the CCAA at 14.5ppg. Samuels is averaging 17 points in his last five CCAA contests.  

Jason Smith tops the CCAA with 3.1 three-pointers a game. Smith, averaging 10.9 points per game, is tied for 24th in scoring in the CCAA.

Cal State Dominguez Hills is locked up in a five-way tie for first place in the CCAA at 8-4. The Toros are 9-5 for the season. Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated Cal State East Bay, 77-73 on December 18. The Toros are currently on top in the CCAA in scoring defense allowing 58.2 points a game. Wayne Andrews is the Toros top scorer in CCAA play averaging 13.1points per game. 

Cal State L.A. is 7-5 in the CCAA and 11-5 overall.  The Golden Eagles defeated the Pioneers, 71-64, in a game played at Pioneer Gym on December 19. Cal State L.A. has three players averaging in double figures during CCAA play, Chris Robinson (12.6ppg), Quinton Watkins (11.4ppg) and Leland Jones (11.3ppg). Jones is the third leading rebounder in the CCAA at 5.8 rebounds a game.
