HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer men's basketball team, 5-4 CCAA and 7-6-5 overall, will return to Pioneer Gym to face Chico State on January 20 and Cal State Stanislaus on January 21. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Pioneers five conference victories have been by six points or less. Two of the Pioneer wins have been over ranked teams, Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona.
Cal State East Bay, averaging 76.1 points a game, continues to lead the CCAA in scoring average. The Pioneers remain on top in the CCAA in turnover margin (+5.6), assist/turnover ratio (1.2), and 3-point field goals made (8.7pg). Cal State East Bay is second in steals at 7.9 per game.
Roshun Wynne is fifth in scoring in the CCAA with a 14.3 point per game average. Wynne leads the conference with 2.7 steals a game.
Mark Samuels is third in defensive rebounds (5.3) and tied for third with teammate
Jacari Whitfield in assists, averaging four a game. Samuels is the 13th leading scorer in the CCAA averaging 12.5 points a game.
Jason Smith tops the CCAA with 3.6 three-pointers a game. Smith, averaging 12.7 points per game, is the 12th leading scorer in the CCAA.
Chico State is tied for third in the CCAA with a 6-4 record. The Wildcats are 12-4 for the season. Chico State and Cal State East Bay split two CCAA games last season. The Wildcats are led by
Jay Flores, the 15th top scorer in the CCAA, averaging 12 points a game.
Cal State Stanislaus is 5-5 in the CCAA and 9-5 overall. The Warriors defeated the Pioneers twice in CCAA play during the 2010-11 season. Reggie Jones, averaging 18 points a game, is the leading scorer in the CCAA. Jones is tied for eighth in rebounds in the CCAA at 6.5 a contest.
Jam the Gym Promotion - Jan. 20
The January 20th game against Chico State will be “Jam the Gym Night”. Come out and help the Pioneers reach the attendance goal of 1,000 fans. If the goal of 1,000 fans is reached, everyone in attendance will receive a coupon for a FREE urrito from Chipotle Mexican Grill, Castro Valley.
