HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer men's basketball team, 4-3 CCAA and 6-5 overall, will continue their CCAA road this week to face UC San Diego on January 13 and Cal State San Bernardino on January 14. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Among the six victories for the Pioneers have been wins over ranked teams, Humboldt State and Cal Poly Pomona.
Cal State East Bay, averaging 76.3 points a game, leads the CCAA in scoring average. The Pioneers continue to top the CCAA in turnover margin (+6.1), assist/turnover ratio (1.3) and are tied with Chico State for top honors in 3-point field goals made (8.3pg).
Roshun Wynne is tied for third in scoring in the CCAA averaging 15.6 points a game. Wynne leads the conference with 2.3 steals a game.
Mark Samuels is 10th in scoring (12.2) and rebounds (6.5). Samuels is second in the CCAA with 4.3 assists a game.
Jason Smith tops the CCAA with 3.1 three-pointers a game. Smith is 16th in the CCAA at 11.7 points per game.
UC San Diego is 1-7 in the CCAA and 5-8 for the season. The Tritons defeated Cal State East Bay twice last season in CCAA play. Tyler McGrath, averaging 11.3 points a game, is the Tritons top scorer in CCAA play.
Cal State San Bernardino is second in the CCAA with a 6-2 record. The Coyotes are 7-4 overall. Cal State San Bernardino beat Cal State East in a pair of CCAA games during the 2010-11 campaign. The Coyotes feature the top rebounder in the CCAA, Kwame Alexander, who is averaging 8.1 rebounds a game. Tre Brewer is ninth in scoring in the CCAA with a 12.5 scoring average.
