HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay Athletic Hall of Famers, Coaches and Administrators were honored during halftime of the Pioneer women's soccer match with Cal State Stanislaus on Friday night. The 17 honorees left with a favorable impression as the Pioneers played their best match of the season, knocking off 13th ranked and undefeated Cal State Stanislaus 2-1.

Amy Gerace said. “We kept our focus and really wanted this win over a quality team like Cal State Stanislaus.”
A shot by the Warriors' Karenee Demery was turned away by
Nina Cefalo in the in the 15th minute.
The Pioneers controlled possession with two good offensive attacks.
Zuly Diaz had a shot saved by Brown in the 21st minute while two minutes later Eugenie Foote attempt went over the net.
The two teams battled the final 24 minutes in a scoreless half.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute as Foote scored on a beautiful pass from
Ariana Gordon who just entered the match. For Foote it was her second goal of the season.
Liz Scherrer evened the match 1-1 on an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute.
Gordon took a pass from
Shianna Falk and scored a goal in the lower right corner to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead with eight minutes left in the match. Ariana had a great game,” Gerace said. “To come off the bench and score a goal and assist is a tremendous accomplishment.”
Cefalo, who finished with eight saves, came up with a huge save denying Demery a sure goal in the 87th minute.
The Pioneers controlled the tempo of the match in the final three minutes to record their biggest win of the season.
“There was good energy on the campus all day from recruits, students and the hall of famers, coaches, and administrators who were honored tonight,” Gerace said. “What a great night for our team.”
Cal State East Bay stands at 2-2-1 in the CCAA and 3-3-1 for the season. Cal State Stanislaus is 3-1-1 in conference and 4-1-2 overall.
The Pioneers will host Chico State on Sunday, September 25. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m.
