FRESNO, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay water polo team made it three wins on the weekend with a sweep of Vanguard and Fresno Pacific on Saturday. The Pioneers (19-10, 9-3 WWPA) topped Vanguard, 20-3, before knocking off Fresno Pacific 11-5 to extend their win streak to five games.
East Bay dominated the Lions in game one, with
Ariel Noriega and
Liz Warren each posting four goals to lead the Pioneers. Ten East Bay players got their names on the scoresheet as
Julia Charlesworth, Meghan Paschall,
Claire Pierce and
Chelsie Bryan added two goals apiece and
Sarah Grunberger,
Carly Clark and
Whitney Bell posted one goal each.
The 20 goals in game one were a season-high for the Pioneers, while Vanguard's three goals are the fewest East Bay has allowed this year.
In game two, Warren, Grunberger and Bell led the Pioneers with a pair of goals each.
Julia Charlesworth, Paschall, Pierce, Bryan and Clark also scored for East Bay in its fifth-straight victory. Junior goalie
Jayme Pekarske posted 11 saves in game two and held the opponent to seven or fewer goals for the seventh time in the last twelve games.
Warren finished the day with six goals and has led the Pioneers in each of the last thre games to finish the weekend with nine goals. Grunberger, Bell and Charlesworth all added three goals on the day as well.
Cal State East Bay returns to action next weekend at the Roadrunner Invitational at Cal State Bakersfield. The Pioneers will take on WWPA opponents Colorado State, Santa Clara and the host Roadrunners to close out the regular season.
