ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's water polo team used an early scoring surge to topple Sonoma State, 16-7, in WWPA action on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers (9-6, 5-2 WWPA) out-scored the Seawolves 8-1 in the first quarter to capture their fourth straight win heading into tomorrow's Aggie Shootout in Davis.
The eight-goal first quarter set the tone for East Bay early. Sonoma State held a 2-1 advantage in the second period to send the Pioneers into the break leading 9-3.
Cal State East Bay ramped back up in the third, adding another three goals to take a 12-5 lead into the final period. The Pioneers out-scored the Seawolves 4-2 in the last quarter to seal the victory.
East Bay returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Davis for the Aggie Shootout. The Pioneers will face the host No. 15 Aggies at 2:30 p.m. before taking on WWPA opponent Santa Clara at 6 p.m.
