HAYWARD, Calif. – The Pioneers fell to Cal State Monterey Bay 83-64 before a homecoming crowd of 563 in Pioneer Gym on February 3.
Cal State Monterey Bay led 29-14 with 9:59 left in the first half and maintained the 15 point margin going into halftime. The Otters shot a sizzling 70.8 percent in the first half converting 17- of- 24 shots.
In the second half, Cal State Monterey Bay led by as many as 25 points three different times.
Cal State Monterey Bay, shooting 62.7 percent from the field, improved its CCAA record to 5-10 and 7-12 overall.
The Otters' Davion Berry led all scorers with 30 points on 10- of- 15 from the field, 3- of- 5 from three point range and 7 of 10 from the free throw line. Darroll Phillips came off the bench to score 13 points while James Albert followed with 12 shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from the field.
Mark Samuels led Cal State East Bay in scoring with 17 points and added five rebounds.
Jared Waters scored 13 points.
The Pioneers, 1-14 in the CCAA and 3-16 for the season, will continue homecoming week on February 5 with a game against San Francisco State in the “Battle of the Bay”. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
