HAYWARD, Calif. – The Pioneer men's basketball team is 2-2 heading into their CCAA opener against visiting Sonoma State on December 2.  Cal State East Bay will host Humboldt State on December 3.      
                                           
Cal State East Bay split two games with Sonoma State last year including a 69-53 victory at Rohnert Park. The Pioneers were swept in a two-game series by Humboldt State during the 2010-11 season.        
            
Overall, the Pioneers and Humboldt State top the CCAA in steals with an average of 11.5 a game.  The Pioneers are third in blocked shots (4.5) and free throw percentage (.750).

Junior Mark Samuels, from Berkeley High School, is the leading overall scorer in the CCAA with a 22 point per game average. Samuels also tops the CCAA with 2.8 steals a contest.                   
                                
Guard Jason Smith leads the CCAA with 4.3 three-pointers a game and ranks seventh in scoring at 5.7ppg.  
                                                                                                                                                                              
Nick Marshall, from Las Positas College, is leading the CCAA with 2.5 blocked shots a game. Marshall, who is averaging seven rebounds a game, is tied for top honors overall in the CCAA with 5.5 defensive boards a contest.

Roshun Wynne is tied for second overall in the CCAA with 2.5 steals a contest. He is also tied for sixth with four assists a game.

Sonoma State comes into Friday's game against Cal State East Bay with a 2-2 record. The Seawolves are second overall in the CCAA in field goal percentage (.514). Patrick Scott ranks ninth overall in scoring in the CCAA with a 14.8 point per game average. Steven Pratt is 12th overall at 14.3ppg and tops the CCAA with 6.3 assists per game.

Humboldt State, selected to repeat as CCAA champions, is 4-0 this season having won all four games at home. Overall in the CCAA, the Lumberjacks are first in scoring (91.0ppg), field goal percentage (.528) and assists (20 per game).  The Lumberjacks are led in scoring by Brandon Sperling (17.3ppg-4th CCAA) and Kyle Baxter (13.8ppg-13th CCAA).
