East Bay Falls to Cal State L.A. on Senior Day

HAYWARD, Calif. –
The Pioneer women's soccer team lost to Cal State L.A. 6-1 on Senior Day.

With the defeat, the Pioneers conclude the regular season with a 6-11-1 record. Cal State East finished 5-11-1 in CCAA play.

Cal State L.A., headed to the CCAA Playoffs next week, improves to 12-3-3 overall and 10-3-3 in conference.

“Despite the score, it was nice game to honor our seniors,” Pioneer coach Amy Gerace said.  “They were the true Pioneers from Division III to Division II.”

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the second minute of the match when Norie Pablo scored off a cross pass from Andrea Lammers.

One minute later, the Pioneers had a good rush towards the Golden Eagles' goal, but goalkeeper Jessie Walworth came out of the net to prevent a shot.

Lammers put a ball in the upper portion of the net to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 advantage in the 10th minute.

Natalie Martin converted a header off a corner kick in the 16th minute to extend the Golden Eagles' lead to 3-0.

The Golden Eagles' Janet Mendez had a shot go just wide in the 20th minute.

Following a great save by Pioneers goalkeeper Nina Cefalo, Cal State L.A. made it 4-0 on a goal by Marissa Pickett in the 33rd minute.

Gabbi Segall had a shot blocked by Pioneer senior Jessica Hamister in the 37th minute.

One minute later, Lisa Ohberg scored a goal to give the Golden Eagles a 5-0 lead.

The Pioneers' senior Breanna Baker had a header go wide in the 43rd minute.

Cal State East Bay scored its only goal of the match in the 57th minute when Shianna Falk scored her fourth goal of the season on a cross pass from Eugenie Foote.

The Pioneers continued the offensive pressure as senior Carly Genzoli had a shot saved by Kylie Garcilaso in the 58th minute and Baker's attempt went wide of the net two minutes later.

In the 66th minute, Maddi Meighan had a shot turned away by Pioneer goalkeeper Donna Williams.

Senior Michelle Quintero had a shot saved by Garcilaso in the 70th minute.

In the 83rd minute, Mendez scored to account for the Golden Eagles' sixth and final goal of the match.

Foote had a shot turned away in the 89th minute.

The Pioneers were outshot by a 15-10 margin. Quintero led the Pioneers with three shots followed by senior Ariana Nobrega with two attempts.
