TURLOCK, Calif. – The Pioneers lost their final road match of the season to Cal State Stanislaus 3-0 on Sunday.
With two home matches remaining, the Pioneers stand at 1-13 in CCAA play and 2-14 for the season. Cal State Stanislaus improves to 8-5-1 in the CCAA and 10-5-1 overall.
“It was a very physical match and we struggled to get out of our half in the first half,” Pioneer coach
Andy Cumbo said. “We had a couple of lapses over the span of two minutes and we conceded two goals.”
Rey Suarez had a shot turned away by Warriors' goalkeeper Bill Hambelton in the 12th minute.
The Warriors, who had three shots in the first four minutes, took the lead in the 22nd minute when Daniel Kuczynski scored his sixth goal of the season.
Two minutes later, Trevor Grimbleby converted a shot in the corner of the net to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage.
In the 64th minute, the Pioneers'
Tyler Andersen had a shot go wide.
The Warriors' Arturo Pulido concluded the scoring in the 58th minute with an unassisted goal.
The Pioneers final scoring opportunity came in the 87th minute when
Robin Patton had a penalty kick blocked.
“We made some good adjustments and had a much better second half,” Cumbo said. “We had a ball saved on the endline and a penalty kick blocked. Some of our shots were just wide of the net. I thought we played Cal State Stanislaus well in the second half.”
Cal State East Bay was out-shot by an 18-10 margin.
Andres Ponce led the Pioneers with three shots.
The 2011 campaign will come to an end for the Pioneers with two home matches against Cal State Dominguez Hills on October 28 and Cal State LA on October 30.
