LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Pioneer women's soccer team gave No. 2 UC San Diego all they could handle in the first half of 1-1 tie. Cal State East Bay allowed four second-half goals in a 5-1 defeat to the Tritons.
The Pioneers are 2-5-1 in CCAA play and 3-6-1 overall. UC San Diego is 7-0-1 in the CCAA and 8-0-2 for the season.
Eugenie Foote scored an unassisted goal in the 11th minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. For Foote, it was her third goal of the season.
UC San Diego followed with three shots on goal the following four minutes, but was unable to put the ball in the net.

Shianna Falk had a shot blocked in the 25th minute.
The Tritons tied the match 1-1 in the 30th minute as Britnee Chesney scored her first goal of the season with an assist by Hayley Johnson.
Katie Brawley had a shot turned away by Tritons' goalkeeper Kristin Armstrong in the 36th minute.
Jessica Wi gave UC San Diego a 2-1 lead on a goal in the 49th minute. Seven minutes later, Sarah Mctigue scored her sixth goal of the season to give the Tritons a 3-1 advantage.
The Tritons increased their advantage to 4-1 in the 62nd minute as Danielle Dixon scored with an assist by Wi.
Gabi Hernandez concluded the scoring in the 65th minute for the Tritons as she recorded her second goal of the season.
The Pioneers were outshot 22-8. Falk led the Pioneers with three shots.
Cal State East Bay will host San Francisco State on October 7. The match will begin at 4:30 p.m.
