Senior Mark Samuels turned in two strong performances as the Pioneer men's basketball team picked up home victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and Menlo College. On Saturday, Samuels had 16 points (including 9-for-10 on free throws) and four rebounds in the 15-point win over the Otters. During the game, he became the third-highest scorer in Cal State East Bay history with his 1,113th point. On Monday, the Berkeley native was 8-for-11 from the field and notched 16 points in the 14-point victory over the Oaks. For the weekend, Samuels averaged 15.5 points and 4 rebounds per game while shooting 63.6 percent. For the season, he's East Bay's second-leading scorer at 13.4 ppg and has reached double figures in seven of nine games.Â
