Local product Jurrell Turner led the Pioneers to a thrilling one-point victory over Notre Dame de Namur on opening day. The senior from Hayward scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, both of which led the team. Turner was 5-for-6 from the field and 8-for-12 from the free throw line. As the team's best weapon on offense Sunday, he attempted the first ten free throws of the game for East Bay and shot more than half of the Pioneers' total foul shots.
