Kathy McKiernan was East Bay's most consistent player during the opening week of the season, helping the Pioneer volleyball team post a 3-1 record at the sixth annual Route 92 Showdown. The junior tallied 35 kills and 19 total blocks over the four matches, highlighted by a four-set victory over Holy Names in which McKiernan posted 11 kills without an error for an .846 hitting percentage. 

The middle blocker was CSUEB's second-leading scorer for the week, averaging over two kills per set. She also led the team in blocks and currently ranks among the top 10 in the CCAA in blocks per set. Most impressively, McKiernan was the most efficient attacker in the conference this week, leading all CCAA players with a .476 hitting percentage to start the season.
