Freshman volleyball player Deja Thompson has been named Cal State East Bay's Female Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Doubletree by Hilton Pleasanton at the Club, for Oct. 26-Nov. 1.
Despite a pair of road losses against tough CCAA opponents last week, Thompson had a big weekend in the front row for the Pioneers. On Thursday at Humboldt State, she led the team with nine kills and made just one attack error for a .533 hitting percentage. She also tallied four total blocks in the three-set match.
Two nights later, she was solid against one of the top teams in the nation, No. 9 Sonoma State, again posting impressive attack efficiency. The Rialto native had seven kills, three blocks, and a .286 hitting percentage. For the week, she scored 20 total points for East Bay.
In her rookie season, Thompson leads the Pioneers and ranks 13th in the conference with 0.75 blocks per set.
