Senior golfer A.J. Hebert has been named Cal State East Bay's Male Athlete of the Week, sponsored by the DoubleTree by Hilton Pleasanton at the Club, for Mar. 30-Apr. 7.
Hebert turned in two solid performances to lead the East Bay men's golf team this past week. He finished in the top-30 individually in a 20-team field at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout on Mar. 30-31, which also served as the NCAA West Regional Preview. The left-hander carded CSUEB's lowest score of the final round on a windy day at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club and ended up at 230 (+14) for the tournament.
This week, he helped lead the Pioneers to their lowest single round (288) and lowest tournament score (885) of the 2014-15 season at the Western New Mexico Mustang Intercollegiate in Arizona. Hebert was East Bay's top individual finisher, sharing 22nd place with a total score of 221 (+5), which included a two-under-par 70 in the first round. The squad shot even par collectively in the final round to finish seventh in the tournament, an impressive performance as they look to qualify for next month's NCAA West Regionals.
