Junior Rudy Navarro has been named Cal State East Bay's Male Athletes of the Week, sponsored by the DoubleTree by Hilton Pleasanton at the Club, for March 23-30. He had a monster weekend offensively for the Pioneer baseball team, which dropped all four of its games to Cal State L.A. The oufielder batted .538 in the series, reaching base nine times with at least one hit in all four contests. He walked twice and did not strike out a single time in 15 plate appearances, while playing errorless defense in right and center field.
Navarro's highlight of the weekend came on Friday afternoon in a heartbreaking 9-7 extra-inning defeat. He cranked out a career-high four hits, including a pair of doubles to lead the East Basy offense. After CSULA tied the game in the top of the ninth inning, Navarro led off the bottom of the frame by belting a double into the gap to put the winning run in scoring position.
For the season, the Corcoran native leads the Pioneers in doubles and walks, and he ranks second in RBI and third in total hits.
