Junior pitcher Angel Lara has been named Cal State East Bay's Co-Male Athlete of the Week for Mar. 9-15. The left-hander was outstanding out of the bullpen in helping the Pioneer baseball team capture it's first series victory of the the season in CCAA competition against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Lara pitched on three straight days and recorded saves in all three of East Bay's victories over the weekend. He did not allow a single batter to reach base in 4.0 innings of perfect relief. The Dixon native's most impressive feat came in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. He entered the contest with two runners on base and no outs with the go-ahead run at the plate in the sixth inning of a scheduled seven-inning game. After a sacrifice bunt moved the tying runs into scoring position, Lara retired the next two hitters to escape the jam and worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to close out the victory.
