Men's Basketball player Jacari Whitfield has been named Cal State East Bay's Male Athlete of the Week for Feb. 23 - Mar. 1. Last Friday night against Cal State Stanislaus, he set a career high with 26 points in 39 minutes. Whitfield went 9-for-19 from the field, grabbed five rebounds, and knocked down four three-pointers.
The following night against CCAA champion Chico State, he led all scorers with 17 points, playing all 40 minutes in his final collegiate game. The San Francisco native did most of his damage at the free throw line, going 10-for-11.
Whitfield finishes the season as CSUEB's leading scorer at 11.5 points per game. He reached double figures in 11 straight contests to close out the year. In conference play, he led all CCAA players with 35.3 minutes per game and a free throw percentage of .903. He also finished second in the league in assists (4.3 per game) and 10th in scoring (13.0 ppg). Whitfield ends his four-year career holding school records with 195 three-pointers and an .855 free throw percentage. He scored 959 career points for the Pioneers, and he ranks second all-time with 326 assists.
