Nick Grieves has been named Cal State East Bay's Male Athlete of the Week for Feb. 2-8. The senior guard helped lead the men's basketball team to a 61-53 win over rival San Francisco State in front of a huge Homecoming crowd this past Saturday. The victory snapped an eight-game skid for the Pioneers, who had an outstanding night shooting from long distance. The Pioneers took 21 of the first 23 shots from three-point range and finished at 38 percent from the game. Grieves led the way for East Bay with 17 points, going 6-for-11 from the floor, including 5-for-10 from deep. Midway through the second half, the Pioneers clung to a five-point lead, and Grieves proceeded to bury three-pointers on three straight possessions, stretching CSUEB's advantage out to double figures. For the season, the Aptos native leads East Bay with a .351 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
