Junior guard Juawnn Springfield has been named Cal State East Bay's Male Athlete of the Week for Dec. 1-7. He was the leading scorer for the Pioneer men's basketball team during the first two games of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this past weekend. Springfield paced the Pioneers with 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting in a loss to Cal Poly Pomona on Friday night. He followed that up by posting team highs with 31 minutes, 14 points, and five offensive rebounds on Saturday as the team fell to UC San Diego. The Fremont native averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds for the weekend, while shooting 47.1 percent from the field (8-for-17) and 78.6 percent from the free throw line (11-for-14). Through seven games this season, Springfield leads the Pioneers in points scored (74), minutes played (211), made field goals (26), and made free throws (21).Â
