Mark Samuels was a steady force for Pioneer men's basketball this past weekend despite a pair of tough road losses. The senior had 14 points and a season-high seven rebounds in a tight game against UC San Diego, but East Bay wasnt able to hang onto a narrow lead as the Tritons closed out an 80-70 win. The following night, Samuels led all scorers with 20 points in CSUEB's 91-74 loss to Cal State San Bernardino, the No. 14 team in the nation. The Berkeley native was 7-for-17 from the floor with five rebounds and a team-best three steals. Samuels turned in his best long distance shooting performances of the season, combining to go 5-for-10 on three-pointers in the two games. He also became just the third player in school history to score 1,200 points for his career, and he now trails Stan Cherry by 175 points for second place on the all-time list.Â
