Study Hall

Study Hall for Pioneer Student-Athletes
The athletic study hall program is designed to provide an objectives-based structured study environment leading to academic success for Pioneer student-athletes. Study hall sessions are monitored so that students-athletes can work uninterrupted.

Required hours are driven by academic need. Coaches will mandate a set number of hours a student-athlete must be in study hall each week. Additionally, hours may be based on new or continuing student status.

Hours and Locations (Fall Quarter 2016):
Sunday - Thursday 6:30-9:30 pm

Policies:
  • Upon entering the study hall room, student-athletes are required to show the monitor their syllabi, indicate which assignments they will be working on, and show completed work upon leaving.
  • Study hall hours are reported for the week beginning on Monday and ending on Sunday. Coaches will receive an official copy of the study hall report on Monday afternoons.
  • Student-athletes are required to sign-in and sign-out to receive credit for study hall. Failure to sign-in or sign-out will result in "0" hours for the study hall session.

Rules:
If a student-athlete does not adhere to the following rules, he or she will be asked to leave study hall and will not earn hours for that particular study hall session. In order to promote a more conducive learning environment, the following rules must be observed:
  • No cell phone use during study hall. Cell phones must be silenced/turned off and turned in upon entry to create the best learning environment possible.
  • PLAN AHEAD! Arrive prepared, i.e.: with books, notebooks, or other materials needed for your homework.
  • Do not sign in or out for anyone but yourself.
  • Group projects and/or studying together may occur with approval, but must be kept quiet in order to keep a positive studying environment.
    No Internet use unrelated to your class assignment.
  • Headphones/ear buds may be used. The music level must be kept to a minimum so as not to disrupt fellow students.
  • Clean up after yourself or risk losing the ability to have food and drink.
  • No sleeping at any time.

Additional Approved Opportunities for Earning Study Hall Hours:
Please note: Proof must be furnished for any opportunities listed below to count.
  • Tutorial sessions in SCAA or via e-tutoring
  • Workshops (Presented by AACE, SCAA, or Athletic Academic Advisor)
  • Professor office hours for additional instruction
  • Academic/Career advising sessions with the Athletic Academic Advisor
  • Study halls during travel under supervision of your coach
