Mel Yearby helped lead the Pioneer baseball team to Far Western Conference championships in 1971, 1972, and 1974. He was a first team All-Far Western Conference selection his senior year. Yearby is tied for second all-time in triples (14). He ranks third all-time in hits (177), stolen bases (46), and bases on balls (74), fourth in RBI (101), and fifth in runs scored (110).. He still holds school records for triples in a season (eight in 1971) and runs scored in a game (six in 1971). Yearby went on to sign a professional baseball contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and won the team's Spring Training Carpenter Award for Most Outstanding Minor League Player as a rookie in 1975.
