Clayton Larson is one of the most decorated field athletes in the history of Pioneer Athletics. In 1968, Larson became the first national champion in school history when he took home the title in the Shot Put at the NCAA championships. He was also the Far Western Conference champion and NCAA West Regional champion in the same event, while capturing All-American honors. Larson was the first collegiate athlete ever in northern California to top 60 feet. His throw of 60 feet, 3.5 inches stands as the program record after 48 years.
