HAYWARD, Calif. --- Cal State East Bay head men's basketball coach
Gus Argenal has announced yet another talented addition to his 2013-14 recruiting class.
Aaron Cameron, a 6'1" guard from Sacramento, Calif. has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete as a true freshman for the Pioneers.
"Aaron can score from anywhere on the floor and will be a great defender in our system," said Argenal. "He comes from one of the most competitive high school programs in California, playing under Derek Swafford, and he also starred on the AAU circuit for Joe Fuca and the Lakeshow. Aaron's attacking style and ability to shoot from the perimeter are going to be extremely valuable to our program for years to come."
Cameron was a three-year starter for Sacramento High School. As a senior, he was named Metro League MVP and led his team to a 25-9 record. Cameron averaged a team-leading 12.7 points per game and ranked second on the squad with 60 assists and 50 steals. He was selected to the 2013 Sacramento Bee All-Metro team as well as the Northern California All-Division II team.
Cameron will join East Bay following a remarkable prep career in which he scored over 1,000 points, shot over 40 percent from behind the arc, and became Sacramento High School's all-time leader in three-pointers made. He was a three-time All-Metro League selection and led the Dragons to two Metro League titles, two Northern California State semifinal appearances, and a Division II Section championship.
Cameron, who was also a standout combo guard for the AAU program Lakeshow Pump 'n Run, was twice selected to the St. Hope Elite Classic All-Tournament team. He was also named Player of the Event after scoring 33 points in an upset victory over Bishop O'Down High School at the 2011 MLK Classic at UC Berkeley's Hass Pavilion.
